Food for Chronic Diseases If you suffer from arthritis, of whichever kind (including gout), or from chronic conditions which you are having difficulty ‘treating’, it’s a good idea to eat healthy foods, of course, avoiding toxins and pesticides. In addition to what’s a sensible diet plan, you may not be aware of the fact that focusing on an alkalizing diet (as opposed to an acidifying one) will be beneficial against arthritis.  It will not resolve the problem, hence the need to use homeopathy, but it will certainly be a complementary tool I would recommend.

I always wondered, as a teenager and then as an adult, why I would have specific cravings towards certain foods, such as onions, leeks, green peas, green beans, lemon and so on. I would devour huge quantities of it. At the same time, there were foods that, after consuming them, would make me feel unwell even if they are not necessarily, objectively ‘bad’ foods. Today I know it’s because my body was ‘telling’ me I had to ‘alkalize’ my system in order to somehow ‘fight’ my Rheumatoid Arthritis. Those foods always helped and I never really connected the dots, so to speak!

Here I have compiled a list of the most common foods which will alkalize your body (namely combat its acidity, which is a condition which will make your body vulnerable to a number of conditions as well as worsening your arthritis). If you suffer from arthritis in particular Rheumatoid Arthritis and Gout, you could try eating any or all of the recommended foods below, and see how it can work for you (remember this Food for Chronic Diseases is not a cure, but an aid, although some nutritionists claim that an alkaline diet can dramatically improve your condition):

Broccoli, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Celery, Cucumber, Eggplant, Garlic, Green Beans, Green Peas, Lettuce, Mushrooms, Onions (and Leeks), Peas, Peppers, Radishes, Sea Veggies, Green Spinach, Spirulina, Sprouts, Sweet Potatoes, Tomatoes, Watercress, Wheat Grass.

Apricot, Avocado, Blackberries, Cantaloupe, Fresh Coconut, Grapes, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, Nectarines, Orange, Peach, Pear, Pineapples, Strawberries, Tomato, Watermelon.

Almonds, Chestnutes, Fermented Tofu, Whey Protein Powder, Millet

Stevia (excellent natural sweetener – the only one you can consume safely without any concerns)

Chili Pepper, Cinnamon, Curry, Ginger, Herbs (of any kind), Miso, Sea Salt (Iodized or not), Mustard, Tamari

Apple Cider Vinegar, Bee Pollen, Green Juices, Freshly squeezed fruit juices, Mineral Spring Water (not tap water), Pro-biotic Cultures, Veggies Juices, Soured Dairy Products.

Although it may sound a dichotomy, foods like lemon and lime alkalize your body and are extremely healthy for you. If you are concerned about your teeth enamel, you can squeeze them in a glass of spring (mineral) water and drink it all through a straw.  The above are beneficial Food for Chronic Diseases.  But what to avoid?

Foods to avoid or to eat in small quantities if you are trying to avoid acidifying your body.

Corn, Lentils, Olives, Winter Squash, Canned or Glazed Fruits, Barley, Oat Bran (this food is very good for you in small quantities), Wheat Bran, Bread (especially white bread), Corn, Cornstarch (this one is unhealthy for a number of reasons), Crackers, Flour (especially white), Hemp Seed Flour, Macaroni, Noodles (especially if white), Quinoa (excellent food in so many ways but not good in huge quantities if you are trying to alkalize your body), all Rice (especially the white kind) and rice derivatives, Rye (again, it can a great type of food but not in huge quantities if you are trying to alkalize your body), Spaghetti, Pasta (especially if white), Almond Milk (excellent milk substitute in so many other ways, but not to be consumed in huge quantities if you are trying to alkalize your body).

Again, excellent foods (but not ideal in large quantities for the purpose of alkalizing your body) are Black Beans, Chick Peas, Green Peas, Kidney Beans, Lentils, Pinto Beans, Red Beans, Rice Milk, Soy Beans, Soy Milk, White Beans, Cashews, Legumes, Peanuts, Walnuts, Cod, Fish, Haddock, Lobster, Mussel, Oyster, Salmon, Sardines, Scallops, Shrimp, Tuna.

 Highly acidifying foods (which you could try to avoid for a number of other health reasons too) are:

All meats (especially if fat, processed kind, but all meats are highly acidifying), Corn Oil, Lard, Soybean Oil, Corn Syrup, Sugar, Beer, Spirits, Wine (Red Wine is very small quantities can be beneficial for other health reasons but it is acidifying), Cocoa, Coffee, Soft Drinks, Pop (including Coca-Cola!); of course, drugs of any kind, herbicides, pesticides, tobacco and chemicals are also highly acidifying. These foods and components are to avoid if you wish to alkalize your body.
